As a child everything was an adventure In the world of play I could see myself Playing baseball become Al Kline or Norm Cash
In the world of education I could see myself As Davy Crockett fighting Indians Abe Lincoln becoming President
At the movies I was always the hero I was Zorro, the Lone Ranger, Flash Gordon On any given Saturday As I looked through my eyes
As a teen life became a world of pretend As I dream dreams I was the adventurer, explorer, engineer Being more than I always was as I looked through my eyes
I learned about life dreaming the dreams Becoming the hero Words of encouragement and challenges by a young President named Kennedy I was ready to accept and become the man I was meant to be As I looked through the eyes of a young man
Going off to war I came to see the true reality of life My world taught me about survival and the sadness of death Of not really being in control My idea of being a hero changed from me to the men around me As I looked through the eyes of war
Now as an old man who has experienced life fully I look at my children and grandchildren and see them dream dreams Becoming the heroes and I just smile knowing how they feel Knowing that life comes full circle they will become what they are meant to be As I look through the eyes of an old man I have no regrets
